Nazareth and Sea of Galilee Tour

NAZARETH & SEA OF GALILEE TOUR

Nazareth's many historic sites are among the most important in the world to Christianity: the prominent Basilica of the Annunciation was built over the remains of Mary's home where she received word that she would bear the baby Jesus. The vibrant old market houses some surprising hidden buildings, ancient mosques, churches and synagogues. The Mount of Precipitation (Mount of the Leap), where Jesus is purported to have escaped the angry people (according to Luke's Gospel), offers bird's eye views of the surrounding area. Next stop on the tour is the Sea of Galilee and a visit to Capernaum national park, including the remains of a fishing village from the 2nd Temple era, where Jesus and some of his disciples lived. Today it is home to lush green gardens, a boating harbor and a promenade. To the south of the Sea of Galilee, the route takes in the Yardenit Baptism site on the Jordan River, which attracts large numbers of pilgrims every year. To complete the tour, continue to Mount Arbel, a steep cliff offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Sea of Galilee and the entire Upper Galilee region.
