Rosh Hanikra

Rosh Hanikra is situated in the northwestern tip of Israel.

The cliff at Rosh Hanikra is unique in its crevices, which were formed as a result of the sea waves repeatedly slamming into the rocks. Ride a cable car down to the sea, descending from the top of the cliff down to the crevices, see the "peace train" audio visual sight. The site also houses a restaurant, a souvenir shop and a coffee shop.

Along the beach, extending up to the cliff, the Mediterranean Sea merges with the mountain. Its name, "Ras-A-Nakura," originates in Arabic from the caves, which were remarkable even back then.

Following a short trip in the cable car, breathtaking sights unfold before your eyes. Visitors observe the sharp crevices and orbicular niches, which lock the water like an aperture - a result of water and wind "playing" on the rocks. Each day and hour, sights, sounds and colors differ. The sigh of the waves and the wind in the crevices have granted the crevice its name "Nakura - A-Nawuah"or the "cave of sighs." The exceptional spaces of the caves create echo chambers for the whispers of the wind and water.

The crevice ceiling is home to fruit bats and the cliff's grots are nesting grounds for rock pigeons and swallows. Near the water's edge, it is possible to see female seagulls as they gather food, abundantly found on the beach rocks. The crevice waters allow ideal living conditions for a multitude of marine life. On some full moon nights during the year, it is possible to observe a ravishing sight - hundreds of tiny newborn turtles making their way to the ocean. These are descendants of the brown sea turtle, to whom the indented

Rosh Hanikra beach constitutes a watery mating site. The eggs are laid by the female at the sandy coves between the beach rocks.
