Hecht Park

Hecht Park is the largest stretch of greenery within the urban area of the City of Haifa. Though distinct from its surroundings, it is a continuous layer among the landscape of beaches and municipal open areas stretching between Dado Beach and the beach-side hotels and the Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research Center [Limnological is the study of inland waters]. The Park is also next to Shikmona Beach National Garden, along the coastline between the railway tracks and the water line.

Hecht Park spans an area of 75 dunams, extending over 1.2-kilometers in length between the Hagana junction (Maxim intersection) and the Derech Tzarfat intersection next to Tel Shikmona, and a width of 60-70 meters between Derech Ha'Hagana and the railway tracks.

Hecht Park's uniqueness is its multifaceted construction, offering an array of activities for children and adults. The playground built next to the southern parking lot sports brand new equipment including swings, climbing facilities, and the always popular "Omega" pulley allowing kids to slide midair along the beach. Near the playground there is a beautiful grassy field for picnics. For adults, there is workout equipment. Natural pathways allow for walking, running and hiking along a 3-kilometer perimeter. Seasonal water pools with vegetation along the streams and grassy hills are planned along the length of two river channels crossing the park (from Carmel Mountain to the Mediterranean Sea). A paved system of pathways adjoins the sitting areas and the shaded observatory. Vehicles are not permitted into the park; two parking lots are available at the park's entrance.
